One of our clients, Dreamworks Motorsports of Roxboro, NC, contacted us on a Tuesday for help in providing a custom hood ornament for Odell Beckham’s Rolls Royce.  Odell was having them do some customization, and they decided to surprise him with the hood ornament.  The idea had been percolating in their minds for a couple of years. We met on Thursday at our facility to work out the details.  It became a reality the following Monday.

Odell Beckham, currently with the Cleveland Browns, was a rookie with the NY Giants in 2014 when he made an incredible one-handed catch near the end zone and scored.  Arguably, this was one of the greatest catches of all time in the NFL. The Challenge

Create  a custom hood ornament for Odell’s Rolls Royce within five business days of the request.

The Solution: 3D Scanning and 3D Printing

Dreamworks Motorsports provided a production Rolls Royce hood ornament that we 3D scanned.  We used the scanned data as reference information to create a 3D model of the mounting features for the hood ornament.  Want to learn more about our 3D scanning services?  Click here.

The model had a few distortions, so we downloaded a new helmet and a new football.  Using Geomagic Design X software, we scaled them to size, cleaned up the rest of the model, and merged it all together with the newly created mount from the 3D scanning process.  Interested in 3D Scanners? Dreamworks Motorsports picked up the hood ornament on Monday morning, painted it, and installed it.  The next day, Odell saw the customization of his Rolls Royce for the first time. His Instagram post speaks for itself.
